		<description>Hi all
For anyone beginning digital photography it is an exciting time but it can also be very frustrating. There are lots of tips on this website (have a good look!) but here are a few of mine which may also help.
Digital photography has some great advantages
-Yes you can take lots of pictures - often too many?
-Yes you can choose the best ones for printing - do you take time to do this?
The big question is are you getting the best from your camera and getting the results that you want? If not read on and here are a few tips for new, and more experienced photographers, that we tend to forget about no matter what sort of camera we have.

COMPOSITION – Take time to set up the shot. If you are deleting lots of images or have to spend hours on the computer working on pictures something is wrong. Use the viewfinder or screen to compose your picture. Be prepared to MOVE to get the best viewpoint or use your ZOOM to fill the frame with your subject – cropping it later is a waste of time. Look out for background distractions in the picture too.

FOCUS- Many out of focus shots are caused by impatience! Give the camera time to focus on the main subject.

SHARPNESS- Cameras must be held absolutely still to get a sharp picture. Hold the camera firmly in BOTH hands and squeeze the shutter button – don’t stab at it. If you can, prop the camera on something, or alternatively use a tripod.

These three things will begin to turn your snaps into photographs, but there is one more suggestion.

REVIEW your images on the camera after taking. If they are not right take them again!

What next?

Go to Stamford Photo Express!
SPE has many advantages as the best place to go for prints.
First Andy has years of experience working with images. He adjusts every image before printing, using his technical expertise.
Second, your home printer cannot match the quality of his commercial machine which uses top end technology for printing, giving prints of archival quality. Ink jet and thermal prints will not last as long. Work out how much your printer really costs to run in ink paper and time and you see will see that printing at SPE makes sense. You also get a personal service, not just a help line when things go wrong!

A couple of suggestions though. Choose which pictures you want to print BEFORE you go to the shop and make a list, or better still transfer them to a CD or memory stick before you go. Do not fiddle with the pictures or “crop” them to odd sizes on your because this makes them harder to print!
Enjoy your photography and let the expert do the printing process for you and for those special pictures you can get big enlargements or canvas prints too.

If you want to learn more, come to one of the evening sessions at Stamford Photo Express or join me on a local practical photography course.</description>
